Monique's life is not going well at all. She is abandoned by her husband, her job isn't going anywhere. But once the famous Evelyn Hugo had demanded her to write her biography, she dared to take the opportunity and to defy the fears living inside of her.

Eleven Hugo is a simple girl struggling with her greedy father after the dramatic death of her mother that had promised a lot of dreams without being able to accomplish any.

Evelyn filled up with the determination to realize her mother's dream of becoming an actress. She started with buying her virginity to her first husband who will get her the world of Hollywood. Her first role was nothing but a cameo in the back, and she was nearly seen by the audience.

She took the courage to talk with the producer Harry to get her in a heroic role. The man refused at first, but once he accepted, he made the most famous actress.

Along a journey full of adventures, success, loss, chokes, Evelyn had an exciting life of different stories with different stories. On the ear of Monique, Evelyn unspools a tale of ferocious ambition, unexpected friendship, and great forbidden love. In few words, a devasting heartbreaking story.

I have to warn you that once you start reading this novel, you won't stop. It's full of surprises, agonies, unexpected allies, jealousy. it's going to make you feel the Hollywood experiences, to share actors their stories, their pain, and their secrets. Who the hell says that actors' life is easy?

I loved how Monique was so desperate and pessimistic at first but once meeting with Evelyn, she became to change and adapt Evelyn's manners that get her into the life of stardom.

Little by little, Monique became strong-headed, she got to decide for herself and to think only for what's good for her. Sometimes is better to be selfish than to lose opportunities.

I loved and hated Evelyn, I just fall for her string head, her determination to do the things she wants to do whatever the matter. But I hated her decisions back to when she was young.

A story showing the importance of true love and the sacrifices one can take to maintain their loved ones.

“It’s always been fascinating to me how things can be simultaneously true and false, how people can be good and bad all in one, how someone can love you in a way that is beautifully selfless while serving themselves ruthlessly.”

“Heartbreak is a loss. Divorce is a piece of paper.”

Loubna's review

As you can see from the review, I didn't like the novel that much so I didn't recommend it for my sister to read it because she is not so much into over-romance books. But if you like reading romance so much, probably you would like this book.
I hope you enjoyed the review.
